Today we get to make our own atom

1. Gather all of your materials
2. Work with mom or dad or a classmate. Measure and cut a piece of string that is 3.2 meters. Tie the ends of the string together. Make the string into a circle. Put sticky note in middle of circle. Poke a tiny hole in the sticky note.
3. Stand back and look at what you made.
4. Think...Your circle is like an atom and the pencil hole is the nucleus of your atom.
But now atoms are super small and a nucleus is super super super small. To get an idea of how small, you are going to measure.
5. Measure the pencil hole in milimeters. Measure the circle "diameter" in milimeters.
6. Now write the measurements as a ratio that means write it like a fraction like this...Pencil hole/circle diameter
7. Use a calculator to divide your fraction (take the top number and divide it by the bottom number)
8. What number did you get? Record your answer in your science notebook.
